Volunteer Opportunities

The Valley of Stone volunteer programme covers a much broader range than just the formal education sector. A great deal of activity is centred on individuals developing their own personal goals whilst working on environmental and heritage projects, helping to develop new skills and competencies in an informal way regardless of age of the participants. The AQA Unit Award Scheme approved by QCA as part of a qualification unit that can be offered along with the John Muir Award scheme and Dry Stone Walling Training approved by the DSWA.

The aims of the Valley of Stone Training Plan

  • Iincrease people's understanding of and responsibility towards the environment, sustainability, heritage and biodiversity.
  • Coordinating local community training events that focus on stone heritage.
  • Development of specific specialised sector skills helping individuals towards better employment opportunities i.e. dry stone walling.
  • Assisting with the development of basic skills.
  • Iinvolve young people in their communities and develop their sense of local environment.
  • Create opportunities for more people to learn about be actively involved and committed to carry out environmental and heritage activities.
